The central theme of our Teacher's day performance in 2006 was the starfish. Karen one of our committee members lovingly painted each and every one of these little starfishes given to the teachers.
They turned out so beautiful. It took our breathes a way. What a beauty! What a talent. Karen certainly has the eye for details and aesthetics. Wow.

Indeed, all of us were touched by the beautiful thought and countless hours of back-breaking work that must have gone into making the starfishes - a most unique gift for us. The significance of the starfish as a Teachers' Day gift was not lost on us!
ReplyDeleteEach time I see a starfish in any form, I am reminded about The Starfish Story.
A wise old man was puzzled at the sight of a young man picking up starfish along the shore and throwing them back into the sea. He asked the young man, "Why are you throwing the starfish into the ocean?"
"The sun is up, and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them in, they'll die."
"But, young man, there are miles and miles of beach, and starfish all along it. You can't possibly make a difference!"
The young man listened politely, bent down, picked another starfish and threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves and said, "It made a difference for that one."
Yes, the starfish brought to my mind the above story again...and I was inspired all over again. So our heartfelt thanks to you, Karen, and all the parents who have in some way or another, helped in making this beautiful and meaningful gift for all of us!
In Elias Park Primary School, we believe strongly that every student counts, just as each starfish counts with the young man in the story. This is manifested daily through teachers who go the extra mile to reach out to every pupil.
Would you like to consider volunteering in Elias Park Primary School and partnering us in reaching out to our pupils who may need your support and help?
