Caricature of Susan Koh

Rohani's at it again. This time she sketched Susan Koh as Marilyn Monroe. Cheeky but lovely!
I am sure Susan will agree.

Caricature of Rahimah Asmore by Rohani Matnawi

Rohani is an extremely talented lady who can do a multitude of things, at her free time she sketches. She's usually very spot-on when it comes to caricatures.
Here she drew Rahimah Asmore.. it's quite hilarious! Rahimah always brought with her teh tarik and jemput jemput during our meetings and gatherings! She also drives a Camry!
Here she is.. on her way to our meeting.... with the teh tarik and paper cups!
Very funny!

Mother's Day Tribute

Diana Teo
There is one person who deserves to be mentioned as the " Jovial Mother of all Mothers" in our group and that person will be none other than our very own Diana Teo. This lady gave birth to triplets some 13 years ago and since then never did anything quietly! Everything was...the more the merrier.

She's also a very dear friend who is extremely caring and dependable at the same time. There is not a single bad bone in her body. She never speak ill of anyone and everyone loves her breezy, rambunctious ways.

Diana might have her handsfull with 3 children but this jovial lady is overflowing with love. She is so full of energy and everyone will be attracted by her easy charm and her infectious laughter.

Diana is a people person. She makes friends easily and she's everyone's favourite Auntie. She also has a "magic wand" which she uses to cook in a hurry. She's a multitasker and a very relaxed, happy person. She is one of the most selfless person I have ever met. A real gem.

She is contented being a doting mom to her 3 children, a loving wife, a filial daughter to her family and a good friend to all of us at EPPS.PSG. That is really our blessing. Diana served as Vice Chairperson for 2 years in 2007 and 2008. She was a great partner to work with and a wonderful mentor to some of our new members.

Today, her children, all aged 13 has already left EPPS but Diana is still here! She confessed that she joined her children's PSG in their respective secondary schools but she could not leave EPPS PSG because of the friendship and the bond that as we share. We hope she will stay as long as possible as she is one of us.

Thank you for your friendship Diana. You're a diamond in the rough! But we love you all the same! Happy Mother's Day!

Show some love!

If there's anything we are short of... it will never be creativity and lots of LOVE! I had a hard time coming up with the featured moms because I know we have a very lovely group of moms and they are all very unique and special in their own way.

I will continue featuring our moms and let you get to know these special women at a personal level and know what a wonderful group with have here in EPPS.

This Mother's Day, we had a surprise gift from one of our member, Chiang Meng Lee. She is one of the moms who is more artistically inclined and has a good eye for art and design. She came up with a personalised Mother's day card for each of our members featuring each person's unique characteristics like whether they love to shop, or cook, and how they dress up and make up! She said she had a good time putting those cards together.

It was touching! We never expected that she would be so observant! It was such a lovely gesture. Thank you Meng Lee, you made this Mother's Day even more special for us!

Why EPPS?

WHY? EPPS FOR MY SON… AND… WHY? EPPS.PSG FOR ME….

It was in 2006 when we were considering a place of primary 1 for my youngest son. My hubby and I decided to enrol him in Elias Park Primary School as his two elder siblings were also from EPPS, he was able to enrol easily as his elder siblings were ex-students of the school.

During his early school days in 2007, I had received a form for parents volunteer. Eager to know more about the school recent activities, I filled up my particulars and registered myself.
When I came for the first meeting which obviously all parents of Eliasians were invited by email, the chairperson, Mrs Yvonne Chin and the other members of Parent Support Group gave me a very warm welcome.
Even though there were not many fathers in the group, the overall response to the recruitment drive was amazing!

So what made the PSG an interesting group?
After 2 years in PSG, I have come to the following conclusions :
*Many buddies. Make new friends.
*A place to contribute your thoughts and ideas.Able to exercise your creativity.
* Learn to manage programs/activities and be involved in the execution and planning process.
* Learn about how to raise funds.
* Share of experience and best practices.
*Working as a team
* Have lots of fun! There was never a dull moment at our meetings!

Though many of the active members are housewives, self employed and part-time employees, they are mostly educated, talented, motivated, skilful, creative, attractive, competitive, caring, courageous, determined, responsible and many other good characteristics in them beyond my description. Their dedication and commitment in getting things done makes me respect them more… We know each other's character very well that we are always very supportive of each other.
As per my son’s education, I need not to worry much as the form teacher knows me very well of which any problem (which was rarely), she could simply let me know. I know that every form teacher has a duty to ensure her class is in a very high expectation. I would like to thank Miss Gnaneswary who had been my son’s form teacher for two years (Primary 1 & 2) whom I described as a very concerned person.
Currently, my son’s form teacher is Miss Lam Hui Fong who has a very good reputation as one of the the best teachers in EPPS. My son too on the other hand, is so proud of me being a member of PSG where I become more popular in his school. Why not? I had been singing every year on stage to perform for the Teacher’s Day Concerts.
Anyway, this year I request not to sing again but to help up with the choreography. In regards to this year 2009 Mother’s Day, I suddenly and honestly feel like writing this article dedicated to my fellow friends in EPPS.PSG “A VERY HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY” and “SELAMAT HARI IBU” to my Malay buddies.

Mother's Day Special Tribute

Mother's Day is a very special day for us at EPPS PSG.

This is so because most of our parent volunteers are the mothers of our students. What's even more special about that is that these mothers has developed a strong bond and keen sense of camaraderie amongst ourselves. In the process of rendering our time for the school, we have had alot of opportunity to network and get to know each other very well.. almost like a sorority of sisters.

Therefore I think it is appropriate at this time of the year to give a tribute to some our moms who has contributed so much to the parent support group, the school and all the team members.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all our PSG members as well as all the EPPS Moms out there!

Featured Moms

Mdm Susan Koh

What makes Susan so special?

She is a mother of four, Linus aged 17, Winniline aged 14, Bentley aged 10 and Sean aged 9. She also have 2 dogs, Moon and Oscar and 12 hamsters at last count.

This lady is the epitome of a superwoman. She cooks, drives her children to school and back, she bakes yummy cakes and cookies, she volunteers at school and she keeps up with her dancing lessons and power walking in the mornings.

She is always willing to help a friend in need and is a source of comfort to alot of us in the group. She's very kind and generous to a fault.

There is also another side of Susan which makes her even more outstanding is that she is an enterprising lady. Ever the keen learner and on- the- go type personality, she single handedly sourced products, worked out the costings and product codes for the Mother's Day Fair. She even took the trouble to source for products in Malaysia so that we are able to better value products and pass on the savings to our students. That's how dedicated and thoughtful she is.

She's a wonderful friend to have and a loving mother to her children. Thank you for all your help and dedication Susan, for without you, the Mother's Day Fair and Jumble Sale will not be as successful as we expected.

The good news is.. she will also be the EPPS SFE Coordinator which will ensure a further tighter collaboration between school, parents, students, teachers and the community.

Susan was appointed as the Secretary to the Committee and also Leader for Special Projects in 2009 in recognition to her past efforts and contributions to EPSP.PSG.

Mdm Rahimah Bte Asmore

Rahimah is a gentle lady with a ready smile. She is always calm and serene. Nothing fazes her. She has a heart of gold and always willing to share and give.
We are very happy to have her appointed as Vice Chairman for the PSG in 2009.

That's what makes this mum of 5 so special. All 4 of her older children are in their 20s, the last child was a " surprise" as she put it. Her daughter who is still studying in EPPS is only 10 years old!

But as she enjoys children and loves giving back to the community, she continues to volunteer at school, teach children who are weak in Malay and also teaches Malay as a CCM teacher to other primary school as well.

Rahimah takes pride in being a good mother and wife. When she commits to doing something, she give it her all. She always do her best in whatever she does. Rahimah is so cool that she's voted the "Most wanted future mother-in-law" in the group!

What is most memorable to me was her act of kindness during our Teacher's Day concert last year to a bunch of students. These students had low self confidence, they weren't doing well academically and didn't think they can make a difference. They were not attending rehearsals and not serious abt the performance. Just like everything else in their lives, they think it wld be a failure.

However, Rahimah persevered, encouraged, counselled and even feed them to show them that they can do something to show their appreciation for their teachers. In the end, some dropped off but most stayed and did their performce and did well. These students went on to do their PSLE and moved on to their respective secondary schools.

I think what we did was to give them encouragement and restored their self confidence. That was very special indeed. We gave them faith that someone really care for them. These students went to her house uninvited after the performance.. she invited them in to her house, feed them and welcome them like family.

When I asked her why she did that? She said.. " Yvonne, these children....they are always left on their own... all they need is love." Spoken like a real angel.

Reading Circle- every Wednesday.

While Auntie Lani reads, Auntie Shanti helps with the projector. She will read the next story. Here she is.. always smiling.

Auntie Lani reading to the students. She has a clear voice and tells a story with great expression.

How do you cultivate the love for reading in our children?

You read to them of course!

Two of our PSG mums would take time off from my busy schedule to come in and read to our P1 and P2 students in the school hall during the school's contact time every Wednesdays between 12.45pm to 1.30pm.

That will be the time, the teachers and school management team will have their weekly meetings. In order to keep our young ones engaged and entertained, these 2 mummies, Auntie Lani Choo and Auntie Shanti will come in and read to them the most interesting stories which keep the students asking for more.

It is such a novel idea and everyone enjoys story telling time.

PSG members in full force as always.

Auntie Angela hard at work.

It was to be our very first Jumble Sale and it turned out to be a success in many ways than one. We are so heartened by the support and encouragement we get from PSG members and other EPPS parents, we had more than expected donations of items for sale and to top it up, there are many more parents who gave their children money to support our jumble sale.
The PSG members were in full force to help out with the packing, cleaning and also selling the items. We had a huge donation of books and toys, these items kept coming in.. even to the last day of the sale.

The proceeds of this jumble sale will be used for PSG driven activities in favour of the needy children and all other students of EPPS.

Thank you EPPS parents, it really shows the solidarity in us. We can only become stronger and more effective in our efforts to better support the school activities.
