PSG Potluck Party 22nd May 2007

It has been an eventful first half of 2007, within a very short time we managed to achieve all the programs and activities such as Learning Support Programs, Active Recess and events such as the Total Defence Day, the parenting talks, the Mother's Day fair and many more.
For the first time we had a gathering without a specific agenda, it was just a time for us to get together and to enjoy each other's company and the food that we brought.
It is certainly a nice way to end the term and to kick back for while during the school holidays. After all, there's alot more happening from July onwards! PSG will be involved in the Racial Harmony Day on 30th June 2007, there will be the Teachers' Day Celebration, more student programs and activities for second half of the year.
So much more to look forward to! Happy Holidays!

Mother's Day Fair was a great success!

The Mother's Day fair was a great success. We raised $1029 for the needy children as well as for PSG funds from the 3 days event. As PSG had never organised such an event before, we did not expect the high turnout and that stocks to run out just after the 1st recess! There wasn't any stock left for the upper primaries and the afternoon session for the 1st day itself!
We brought in more new stocks, double that of the 9th of May .. and even then, we sold out after the 1st recess again! By the 11th May, Friday we increased stocks by 4 times and split stock for the upper primaries and the after session students, only then we were able to provide gifts for the rest of the students.
The children were very happy, they were so excited to see so many cute and adorable gifts to get for their mothers. They were so thrilled to personalise the greeting cards and add more trimmings to their gifts. Their happy faces shows it all.
It was an eventful few days.. the mad rush, the running around, the excitable customers and the happy, happy faces.. it made it all worth while.
We would also want to take this opportunity to thank EPPS parents for their support of this event, without which, we will not be able to achieve our objectives. Thank you!

Inspirational Mother's Day Quotes

For mothers, it can be an endless routine task. Parenting can be quite a trying job, especially if you have a handful of boisterous bundles of destructive energy. It takes more than your mettle to deal with the minute-to-minute parenting. If you are in need to perk yourself up for the job, grab a mug of coffee and read these inspiring quotes about mothers.

Jill Bennett:

Never marry a man who hates his mother, because he'll end up hating you.

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis:

If you bungle raising your children, I don't think whatever else you do well matters very much.

Dorothy Canfield Fisher:

A mother is not a person to lean on, but a person to make leaning unnecessary.

Golda Meir:

At work, you think of the children you have left at home. At home, you think of the work you've left unfinished. Such a struggle is unleashed within yourself. Your heart is rent.

Gregory Nunn:

Anyone who doesn't miss the past never had a mother.

W. Somerset Maugham:

Few misfortunes can befall a boy which brings worse consequences than to have a really affectionate mother.

James Fenton:

The lullaby is the spell whereby the mother attempts to transform herself back from an ogre to a saint.

Florida Scott-Maxwell:

No matter how old a mother is, she watches her middle-aged children for signs of improvement.

Betty Rollin:

Biological possibility and desire are not the same as biological need. Women have childbearing equipment. For them to choose not to use the equipment is no more blocking what is instinctive than it is for a man who, muscles or no, chooses not to be a weightlifter.

Elaine Heffner:

Women do not have to sacrifice personhood if they are mothers. They do not have to sacrifice motherhood in order to be persons. Liberation was meant to expand women's opportunities, not to limit them. The self-esteem that has been found in new pursuits can also be found in mothering.

James Joyce:

Whatever else is unsure in this stinking dunghill of a world a mother's love is not.

Germaine Greer:

All that remains to the mother in modern consumer society is the role of scapegoat; psychoanalysis uses huge amounts of money and time to persuade analysis and to foist their problems on to the absent mother, who has no opportunity to utter a word in her own defense. Hostility to the mother in our societies is an index of mental health.

Mother's Day Fair @ Elias park Primary School

Hi parents,

For the incoming Mother's Day which falls on the 13th of May, we are encouraging our students to show appreciation for their mothers by getting special gift for their mothers and a personalised card expressing their love and appreciation. To make that possible, PSG has organised a Mother's Day Fair at Elias Park Primary School on the 9th to 11th May 2007.

Parent volunteers will be at hand to help students choose the right gift that best suit their budget and also personalise the cards for their moms. This activity will also help raise funds for the needy children as well as for PSG student programs.

The Mother's Day Fair at EPPS on the 9th ( Wed), 10th May ( Thur) and 11th ( Fri)of of May. The opening hours will be:
9.30am to 10.30 am ( for AM students)
11.30am to 1.30 pm ( for PM students)

Venue : CCA Room ( Next to Canteen)
The gifts ranges from $0.50cts to $5.00. We have gifts specially put together for our students by the PSG and parent volunteers will be at hand to help them design and write personalised cards for their moms.

HOW YOU CAN HELP.
As we are selling items from the Antique shop as well, you can help by donating items that are still useful but you no longer want to the PSG to sell at this fair. You can leave these items at the General Office, just let them know its your donation for the Antique Shop.

Or if you like, you can come in and help us give a hand to the children to design cards for their mothers during the fair opening hours. All you have to do is send us an email at epps.psg@gmail.com and express your interest. We will contact you on the details. We definitely welcome your offer to contribute to the school.

We think this is a nice way for our children to say "I love you" to all EPPS moms. We certainly hope that it will enhance family relations and the bonding between mother and child. Let's work together to make it a very special day for all.

Best regards,
Mrs. Yvonne Chin
